St. Thomas More School Spell-a-thon 2019

Your Participation Supports Our Technology Program!

HOW IT WORKS: The Spring Spell-a-thon is an annual fundraiser. As per the financial policies, all
TK-8 students will participate in this activity. The minimum total pledge amount to be collected per student is $30. Classroom teachers will administer the Spell-a-thon tests to students on Friday, May 3, 2019. It is a written test, and the word list will be sent home this week for the children to study. TK will be given 15 words to spell (from a list of 30), grades K-3 will be given 30 words to spell (from a list of 50) and grades 4-8 will be given 50 words to spell (from a list of 100).

SPONSOR SHEETS: Students need to gather as many sponsors as they can on the attached sheet -- there is no limit. Additional sponsor sheets are available in the office. They may ask parents, relatives, friends, and neighbors, however, we ask that there be no solicitation of classmates. On the sponsor sheet, list the sponsors’ names and the amounts per word they wish to pledge. Sponsors may also make a minimum $10 flat rate pledge. Sponsor forms must be returned to the classroom teacher no later than Friday, May 3, 2019. After the Spell-a-thon, we will calculate the amounts due from each sponsor. The sponsor sheet and their graded spelling test will be given to each student in their Wednesday Envelope on May 8th so they can collect the monies pledged. Monies must be turned in to the classroom teacher no later than dismissal on Wednesday, May 15, 2019.

PRIZES: Awards will be given to winners in grades TK-3 and grades 4-8 in the following categories:

  • Students with perfect scores in each class (a certificate of achievement)
  • The student who collects the most money per class (free dress for a day)
  • The student who collects the most money for the school (free dress for a week)
  • The class that brings in the most money, based on the average per child (free dress for a day, movie party with snacks, and the classroom teacher has free dress for a week!)

IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER:

  • April 10, 2019 Spell-a-thon forms distributed
  • May 3, 2019 Completed sponsor sheets due back to school
  • May 3, 2019 Spelling tests administered by the classroom teacher
  • May 15, 2019 Final day to turn in total due

SPRING SHOW - THURSDAY, APRIL 18
On Thursday, April 18th, we will present our Spring Show under the direction of Irene Navarro, our music teacher. This year, all students in preschool through 8th grade will perform some 'Golden Oldies' on the stage of The Shah Performing Arts Center in the gym. We look forward to seeing you at this fun production which kicks off at 10:30am. Parking will be available in the schoolyard beginning at 10:15am and the gym doors will also open at this time.

CLOTHING SUGGESTIONS
On the day of the Spring Show, students are encouraged to dress in either clothing that reflects the 'Golden Oldies', or nice fancy dress. No t-shirts, sweats, Uggs or sneakers please. Pants/dressy jeans should be fitted and not baggy. Students may, of course, wear their uniform.
8TH GRADE MOVIE SCREENING
Please join 8th grade for the world premiere of the short films they have been working on over the past few weeks. We will screen the movies in the gym on Thursday April 18th immediately following the Spring Show. The 8th graders would love you to come and enjoy the results of their hard work and creativity.
